THE HAMMER TIMES 14th EDITION

SKATE

Oh man skating is cool. I think it will probably be a future hobby someday.

The falling does get to me though. The first time I really tried to learn how to skate I fell almost really badly on a downhill, and I pulled a muscle in my butt. I love watching people skate. There's an unspoken social language that fills the atmosphere and generally seems to keep people safe.

Here's some photos from Main Street Ventura.

Skating and video games are a relationship I think about a lot. Specifically the idea of "responsive controls"

Melee has responsive controls. It's pretty close to one to one input output. This makes the game feel more like a natural extension of your body, or mind.

But the catch is that skating is FUCKING HARD. And it takes a minute to start having fun. And you usually eat shit before this starts to happen. And all these things apply to video games with a high level of kinesthetic fidelity. I think that term makes sense. Kinesthetic fidelity.
My thumb hits the b button as Falco and he shoots the lazer. I think about punching and I punch.

Eventually these interactions become subconsious and you're just... skating.

I'm painting quite a bit these days. And it's making me thing about inteligence held in the body itself. The intangible magic of experienced hands.

I paint with my left hand sometimes

because it knows things

my right doesnt

Thanks for reading.

The next journal will be about painting.
